Was my 6th Furthur show and 14th "Dead" related show. Was so looking forward to it, as the whole week leading up sucked ass with the huge late Oct snow storm knocking out most of the city's power. Saw some cool people there, and had a nice vibe, tho the horse cops kicking everyone off the street kinda ruined the scene afterward. really dug the Playin opener and then the reprise at the end. That was something special. Plus seeing John and Phil switch sides was unexpected.

Solid Tour Opener
This band has matured nicely! I've seen this incarnation several times now, and this night in Manchestah was the most comfortable I have seen them. It's evident in the consistently good playing, specifically the smooth transitions - an area they have struggled.
Furthur has yet to blow me away with an entire first set. This one, like most, builds nicely with some tasteful playing, meanders a bit, but finishes strong with an energized Bertha and strong Good Lovin' complete with a creative little bonus jam in the middle.
Set two takes off with the first big note of Shakedown. This is up-tempo and fun with lots of creative interplay. I remember watching Phil really get down here. The Jack Straw is fantastic. Give a listen nice and loud if you are a fan of the song. John pushes it again and again and the band responds. Two of three big time Phil bombs. From that point on, their playing is smooth, at times delicate, at times rocking and just plain interesting to hear. The only thing I was really happy with was the Supplication jam. It never really went anywhere. Would have been so cool if they laid into it and finished it. Oh well. Last thing I'll say is that the vocal mix sounded pristine in the building that night. Doesn't come across quite as clean on tape. Still, a fun night with lots of great music and some real highlights.
Tapers RULE - thank you so much for capturing and sharing the music so quickly!
